How to introduce our treats and toppersUpdated 7 days ago

Cats can be cautious with anything new, especially when something smells, feels, or tastes different from their usual routine.

Some cats dive straight in. Others need a few tries before they decide it’s worth their time - sometimes, it’s just a matter of cat luck.

Here are a few simple ways to help them warm up:

1. Start small
Offer a tiny amount at first, you can always build up gradually once they seem more comfortable.

2. Keep things familiar
Try offering Treats or Sprinkles with food they already know and enjoy. Keeping their bowl and routine the same can also help.

3. Try a different texture
Some cats prefer licking, some prefer crunching, and others like things mixed into their usual food. It may take a little experimenting to find what works.

4. Give them a break
If your cat isn’t interested, try again another day. It doesn’t mean they’ll never like it - they may just need more time.

5. Keep it stress-free
Avoid forcing or hovering. Cats can easily associate food refusal with pressure, so calm and positive usually works best.

Purée Lickable Treats

Some cats love licking straight from the sachet, while others prefer a slower introduction.

Try squeezing a little:

  • Onto a spoon

  • Into their usual bowl

  • Over their regular food

Freeze-dried Treats

If your cat isn’t sure about the texture, try breaking the treat into smaller pieces first.

You can also crumble a little over their food to release more smell and flavour.

Sprinkles

Start with a light sprinkle over their usual wet or dry food.

You don’t need much - a little goes a long way. If your cat seems unsure, use an even smaller amount at first.

Still no luck?

Every cat is different, so patience and a gentle introduction usually work best.

If your cat still isn’t interested, give them a little break and try the tips above another day. If they suddenly stop eating their usual food or seem unwell, we’d recommend checking in with your vet.
